GM Coachwork is one of the UK’s leading vehicle conversion specialists, designing and manufacturing high-quality accessible and specialist vehicles for individuals, families, and organisations. Our product range includes Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs) and minibuses. With over 35 years of innovation and craftsmanship, our mission is to enhance mobility and independence through excellence in engineering and customer service.
With ambitious plans for the future, we are seeking an experienced and results-driven Business Development Manager to lead sales growth across our minibus and retail WAV divisions. This role will combine strategic planning with hands-on business development, focusing on expanding our customer base, strengthening key partnerships, and driving revenue growth in both private and commercial markets.
You will play a key role in GM Coachwork’s sales strategy — identifying new opportunities, nurturing relationships with fleet operators, local authorities, and community transport providers to name a few, while ensuring exceptional customer experience and brand representation.
Previous experience in the automotive sector is not essential, but a strong track record of business development is essential. You will be comfortable with operating in a structured manner with regular reporting to the senior management team.
Position is mostly field based, covering areas such as Southern England, Midlands & Northern England.
Day-to-day duties
- Working with the Minibus and marketing team to develop and implement a comprehensive sales growth strategy for the minibus and retail WAV business units.
- Target new business opportunities across B2B and B2C sectors, including local authorities, education, care, and transport providers.
- Develop and build strong relationships with key businesses in markets identified to deliver us growth.
- Manage the entire sales pipeline from lead generation through to negotiation, proposal, and closure.
- Work closely with the marketing team to align campaigns and generate qualified leads.
- Collaborate with internal teams (engineering, operations, marketing) to ensure customer satisfaction and seamless delivery.
- In conjunction with senior management team set and achieve ambitious sales targets, KPIs, and revenue objectives.
- Monthly reporting to the senior management team with progress updates.
- Maintain accurate and detailed prospect records to help measure achievement.
- Provide feedback to management to support product development and pricing strategy.
Essential skills, experience, and qualifications
- Proven track record in business development or sales management in any industry; automotive experience an advantage but not essential.
- Strong negotiation, presentation, and communication skills.
- Commercially minded, with the ability to develop strategic partnerships and close high-value deals.
- Proficient in CRM systems and data-driven sales management.
- Proactive, self-motivated, and target-driven.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with diverse clients.
- Adaptable and resilient, thriving in a busy environment.
- Full UK driving licence including preferably D1
What We Offer
- Basic salary of £30- 35,000 (dependent on experience)
- Commission – generous commission structure – with an initial guarantee for the first 12-month period. Future Expected OTE £60-70,000 +
- Company car or car allowance.
- Typical working hours: 09:00-17:00, Monday to Friday Your annual holiday entitlement in any holiday year is 28 days, inclusive of all public holiday entitlement
- During the holiday year following the completion of 5 years’ continuous service, holiday entitlement will increase by 1 day per year up to a maximum of 33 days inclusive of bank holidays
